Effects of die-cutting on the extraction force of interferential screws. Biodegradable inter-ferential screws have a number of advantages in the fixation of patellar tendon grafts in ACL plasties. However, their fragility causes a certain number of breakages, which according to some authors might be prevented by previous die-cutting. We have carried out an experimental study on 8 mini-pig femora with introduction of a 7-mm PLA screw in the external condyle for fixation of a HTH graft. Previous die-cutting was used in three cases, and direct introduction in three. The two remaining femora were used for a macrosco-pie study of the fixation of the screw to the bone. The results show that previous die-cutting is use-ful when biodegradable screws are used, not on-ly for reducing the risk of breakage for improving the quality of the fixation.

Keywords: ACL, interferential screw, die-cutting.
